Workers’ welfare: NADRA employees call off strike

LAHORE: The National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) Employees’ Union on Friday withdrew its call for a strike saying that the authority had accepted its demands related to the workers’ service structure. Ghulam Mustafa, a union representative, made the announcement at a press conference. He said talks with the NADRA management over the last three days had concluded on a positive note. He said the authority had agreed to place all data entry operators in grade 12. He said employees working on contracts and daily wages would receive Rs10,500 a month. Earlier, their salaries were Rs7,500 a month. He said the management had agreed to revoke show-cause notices and transfer orders of some employees. These notices were issued during the protest. He said a working council would be formed – at regional headquarters and the central headquarters – to ensure that terms of the agreement were implemented.
