LAHORE: To promote the sector, the Pakistan Tanners Association (PTA) is ready to begin its first ‘Pakistan Mega Leather Show’ in Lahore from March 6 to 8, said PTA Chairman Muhammad Musaddiq on Wednesday.

“It was unfortunate that despite being a leading export sector of the country, we were not able to arrange any leather show in the past,” Musaddiq said during a press conference.

“Finally, we have decided to organise this event every year along with other stakeholders for the promotion of the leather industry which should also improve the image of Pakistan internationally,” he added.

As many as 250 local and foreign companies will participate in the expo which includes European Union delegations from Italy, Germany, Portugal, France, and participants from Turkey, Russia, China, India , South Africa, Taiwan, Japan.

A large number of up-country manufacturers of leather, leather products and footwear will showcase their finest quality products during the show to attract buyers and visitors. This show will provide a unique platform for the Pakistani leather industry including tanners, footwear manufacturers, leather garments and gloves manufacturers, chemicals companies and other vendors supplying equipment, machinery and components to the leather industry.

“Foreign companies will also display their latest machineries which could help Pakistani counterparts to improve and modernise their way of doing business in this sector,” Musaddiq added.

He informed that the Group Dialogue between Pakistan and India will also be organised on “South Asia–India-Bangladesh-Pakistan, next hub for leather footwear” The Group-Dialogue would be the first of its kind in Pakistan that would provide a great platform for close understanding and collaboration between the two countries for the promotion of exports, he added.
