Kidnapping for ransom: LHC acquits three convicts on death row

The investigation could not prove the crime through telephonic data

RAWALPINDI: Lahore High Court (LHC) here Thursday acquitted three convicts on death row. Qamar Hussain Bhatti, Wasim Ashraf and Ali Khan were sentenced to death by an anti-terrorism court in Rawalpindi for kidnapping Rehmatullah for ransom and murdering him. A division bench comprising Justice Sikandar Zulqarnain Saleem and Justice Khalid Mehmood Malik observed that the prosecution failed to prove the charges against the accused. Counsel for the accused, Raja Ghaneem argued before the court that the prosecution failed to establish any link between the crime and the accused persons. The investigation could not prove the crime through telephonic data of the accused persons, Raja Ghaneem also said.
