Pakistan committed to peaceful resolution of Kashmir dispute, PM tells Hurriyat leaders

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif stressed that the people of Kashmir will not be denied their inherent rights

MUZAFFARABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif told a delegation of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference on Thursday that Pakistan is committed to a just and peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute, on the basis of the United Nations Security Council Resolutions. 

Nawaz paid tribute to the valiant spirit of the people of Kashmir, who have refused to be buckled under the intense repressive measures they have faced in the course of more than 65 years.

The delegation comprised Yousuf Naseem, Ghulam Muhammad Safi, Mahmood Ahmed Saghar and Rafique Ahmed Dar.

“Pakistan firmly believes that only a just resolution of the Kashmir issue can bring lasting peace to the region,”PM Nawaz said.

Hurriyat leaders expressed confidence in the government of Pakistan, which would continue to support the just cause of Kashmiris on international forums.

They thanked the premier for visiting Muzaffarabad on this day to express solidarity with the people of Kashmir.

Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs Barjees Tahir, Chairman Kashmir Committee Maulana Fazlur Rahman, President AJ&K Sardar Muhammad Yaqoob Khan, Prime Minister AJ&K Chaudhry Abdul Majeed, Speaker AJ&K Legislative Assembly Sardar Ghulam Sadiq and Leader of Opposition Raja Farooq Haider were also present during the meeting.

Our hearts beat with the people of Kashmir: PM Nawaz

Earlier, while the prime minister was addressing a joint session of the Kashmir council, he said that the struggle of the people of Kashmir is the struggle of the entire nation,  Express News reported. 

"Our hearts beat with the hearts of our Kashmiri brothers. As a nation we express our sympathies with those who have lost their lives in the dispute," the PM said, at the joint session of Kashmir council in Muzaffarabad on the occasion of Kashmir Day.

Commenting on the difficulties faced by the people of Kashmir Prime Minister Nawaz said that Kashmir will soon be free and that any  decision in this regard will not be made without their consultation.

"There will be no compromise in the matter. This is an issue for the whole nation and with our determination and resolve, we will make progress," the premier said.

Highlighting the importance of Kashmir for Pakistan, the premier assured he would be visiting Muzaffarabad in March and address the people of Kashmir.

"I will help Kashmir to the best of my potentials. As Pakistan grows, we also want Kashmir to grow with us," he added.

Assuring his support, PM Nawaz said that the people of Kashmir would benefit from the Neelum-Jhelum river.

Concluding his address, the prime minister said that it was the responsibility of his government and himself to provide continued support for Kashmir and urged his officials to set a date for their visit to Muzaffarabad next month.

Your tried to do it with force times and failed. In the bargain, you lost half of your country. So now the change of tactics? Good.

"Peaceful resolution"? Would Pakistan and India be tickling each other with feathers from now on? Indian Muslims are nearly as much as Pakistanis and we want Kashmir (incl PoK) to be a part of India.
