KARACHI: At least two suspected robbers were lynched by a mob in the Korangi neighbourhood of the metropolis late Saturday night.

In other violence, four suspected militants were killed in an alleged encounter with the Crime Investigation Department (CID).

The suspected robbers were caught by residents red-handed when they, along with their two accomplices, were trying to loot cash and valuables from a motorist in Korangi No 4.

Witnesses said the man intercepted by the robbers bumped his car into the motorcycle of the robbers. As a result, the robbers fell down and were caught by residents. Their two accomplices managed to flee.

Later a mob gathered at the site and beat up the robbers. Witnesses said some of the mobsters doused the robbers in petrol and tried to set them on fire.

They also fired at the robbers with pistols snatched from them. Sources at the Jinnah hospital confirmed that the robbers were tortured to death while SSP Korangi Junaid Shaikh said the robbers were not tortured.

Separately, four suspected militants belonging to the Khan Zaman Group of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan were killed in an alleged encounter with the CID police in MPR Colony of Orangi Town.  CID officials said the encounter took place when police raided a hideout of militants.
