PESHAWAR:

The counter-terrorism department (CTD) raided a house in Duranpur village and arrested two suspected terrorists Wednesday night.

A police official identified the two suspects as Muhammad Wazir, a resident of Muridke, Sheikhupura in Punjab, and Afghan refugee Sher Khan, who was residing in a rented house on the outskirts of Peshawar, in the jurisdiction of Paharipura police.

Around 17 kilogrammes of high-grade explosives, five IEDs and four detonators were recovered from their possession. Police believe the explosives were to be used in sabotage plots in the city.

“Both men are being interrogated at present and we expect them to make some important revelations,” said the police official, adding an FIR has been registered against them.

Meanwhile, Kotwali police registered an FIR against two suspected extortionists Yasir and Rashid, residents of Dabgari Garden. The men are accused of demanding extortion money from shopkeeper Adul Aziz. Police also raided the residence of the accused and arrested Rashid while Yasir managed to escape.
