Compensating affectees: LERP to explain non-payment in court

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court on Tuesday called upon the Lyari Expressway Rehabilitation Project (LERP) authorities to explain their failure to compensate those whose land was acquired for the project. A division bench had taken up a petition filed by those affected by the project. The petitioners submitted that the court had earlier directed the respondents to compensate all those whose lands had been acquired for the project but the order had not yet been complied with. They pleaded with the court to initiate contempt proceedings against the authorities and issue directions to freeze the project accounts. Following the initial hearing, the bench issued a notice to the authorities to submit their response.
