Proceedings of the lower house of parliament were adjourned on Wednesday due to the death of a Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PM L-N) lawmaker.
Shortly after legislators assembled for the National Assembly proceedings, Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Sheikh Aftab Ahmed informed the house about the death of PML-N MNA Rai Mansab Ali Khan.
The house paid tribute to the political and literary services of the PML-N leader and offered Fateha for the deceased.
During the question hour session, which was cut short after news of the PML-N lawmaker’s demise was announced, Minister for Science and Technology Rana Tanveer Hussain told the lower house of parliament that provincial governments were responsible for controlling the sale of substandard food products after the 18th Constitutional Amendment.
The minister pointed out that all provincial governments except Sindh have established food regulatory authorities to address the issue. He said that Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority, the premier standardization body in the country, has the mandate to monitor the quality of food products.
Hussain claimed that the government had suspended the licences of 47 industrial units in its bid to weed out producers of substandard food items in the country.
