Violence round-up: Bodies of three men found, activist shot dead

At least seven people hurt in two grenade explosions in Lyari.

KARACHI: A local leader of the Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ) was shot dead in Baldia Town while the bodies of three men were found dead in the outskirts of the city on Saturday.

ASWJ local leader for Baldia Town identified as Hakeem Muhammad, 28, son of Muhammad Siddiq, was shot dead by at least two armed men riding a motorcycle. The deceased was practitioner of herbal medicine and killed in an attack on his clinic located near his house in Sector 5-J, said Madina Colony police.

One of the two suspects entered the clinic and shot Muhammad multiple times, claimed the police and witnesses. His death led to unrest in parts of Baldia town. The ASWJ demanded the government arrest the culprits.

Three bodies found

Separately, three men were found dead from Jumma Goth on Mauripur Road, reported Mochko police. The bodies were shifted to the Edhi morgue for identification after the medico-legal formalities were completed at Civil hospital.

SHO Chaudhry Saleem said the men were abducted by unidentified men, adding that several torture marks of torture were also found on their bodies. The victims were shot once on their heads, he said, adding that a case has been registered.

'Lawyer resisted robbery'

Meanwhile, the police officials investigating the murder of a Sindh High Court lawyer, advocate Tanvir Nazeer, who was killed late on Friday on Korangi Road, have ruled out the possibility of a targeted killing. The lawyer was killed for resisting a robbery bid, said the police quoting footage from a security camera installed on the road.

The police said that Nazeer was shot twice when he resisted the theft of his cellphone, which was snatched nevertheless by the robbers as they fled. The police are waiting for the complainants to register the case.

Lyari grenade explosions

At least seven people were wounded in two separate hand grenade explosions in Lyari on Saturday evening. The hand grenade thrown in Baghdadi injured five people, who were rushed to Civil hospital.

Earlier, two people were wounded when at least two unidentified men threw a hand grenade at Moosa Lane. The victims were taken to Civil hospital and were released after receiving first-aid. SHO Haq Nawaz blamed the Lyari gangsters who, he said, wanted to create panic.

Policeman caught with accomplice

Meanwhile, District East police arrested seven suspects, four street criminals and three target killers, including a policeman. SSP Pir Muhammad Shah informed media that police head constable, Khalid Mehmood, who was posted to the Khawaja Ajmer Nagri police station was arrested along with his companion, Waqas, during a raid near Gulshan-e-Iqbal Chowrangi.

Mehmood was standing at the site along with his accomplice to shoot someone, said SSP Shah, adding they are further looking into the case.

Separately, Baghdadi police, in a joint operation with the Kalri police, conducted a raid in Nayabad and killed an alleged gangster.

SHO Nawaz said the gangster was identified as Harish and was associated with the Sheraz Comrade group.
