ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has called for gearing up efforts for generating energy at low cost in order to make it affordable for the common man. The prime minister, in his opening remarks at the sixth meeting of Cabinet Committee on energy, directed that supply of electricity be improved by the summer of 2015 to provide relief to the people. He said that all hurdles in the way of speedy power generation should be overcome. He expressed the confidence that duty-free import of solar panels would help in reducing load on the existing system. The meeting reviewed progress and decisions taken during the previous five meetings and was attended by ministers for finance, petroleum, planning, water and power. It also reviewed short- and long-term policies and power generation projects. The prime minister was given an overview of the power projects planned to be completed by 2021.
