Encounters and raids: Alleged gangster gunned down, 21 others arrested

A young man killed his mother for remarrying after his father’s death

A notorious gangster allegedly involved in more than 50 target killing cases was shot dead during an encounter with the police in Lyari while around 21 suspects were arrested during targeted raids in different parts of the city on Friday.


Shakeel Dad alias Grenade was killed in a shootout with the police in Mawach Goth within the limits of the Mochko police station. According to the police, he was associated with the Uzair Baloch group of Lyari gangsters.

SSP Sheeraz Nazeer said that the deceased was wanted by the police for various murder and extortion cases. He added that a pistol had been seized from him.

The police claimed that a case has been registered and further investigation was underway.

Arrests

Five suspects were taken into custody during two separate targeted raids conducted by law enforcement agencies in Korangi. The suspects were identified as Fahim, Imtiaz, Irfan alias Chand, Mushtaq and Shoaib. Sources said that the suspects were affiliated with political and religious parties. A large cache of weapons was also recovered from their possession. The suspects were taken to an undisclosed location for further questioning.

Three suspected militants were taken into custody during a targeted raid in Korangi Industrial Area. The suspects were said to be associated with the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan. Their identities were not disclosed.

In another raid, four alleged target killers were arrested during a raid conducted near Sindhi Hotel, Liaquatabad. Sources claimed that the suspects were from a political party and were wanted in several target killing cases.

At least five men were taken into custody during a targeted operation in Block-12, Gulistan-e-Jauhar. The neighbourhood was cordoned off and no one was allowed to enter or exit the area during the operation.

Around four gang members from a Lyari gang were apprehended during a targeted operation conducted by the police in Afshani Gali. The police said that the gangsters hurled three Awan bombs at the Rangers and police while law enforcers were busy in preparing for the raid. No casualties were reported. The arrested gangsters were taken to an undisclosed location for questioning.

Young man kills mother

A son allegedly killed his mother, 44, for remarrying after his father's death. Khalida Bibi was at her residence in Jinnah Road when around two men broke into her house and beat her to death with batons. The incident took place within the jurisdiction of the Sher Shah police station.

Neighbours gathered around the house when they heard her screams and found her in an injured condition. They managed to catch one of the two suspects and started to hit him. The other suspect ran away before the police could get there. Khalida succumbed to injuries at the Civil Hospital, Karachi where she was being treated. Initial investigation suggests that Khalida had recently remarried a man identified as Ikram after the death of her first husband. Her son from the first marriage, Abu Bakar, was unhappy about his mother's marriage and with the help of his cousin, he killed her. The police said that Abu Bakar managed to flee while his cousin was taken into custody by the police.
