Top seeds enter third round in squash event

Zaman, Danish and Mehboob win respective matches in national championship

KARACHI: Second seed Farhan Zaman moved into the third round of the 8th DG Rangers Sindh National Squash Championship after beating Muhammad Farhan 3-0 in their second-round match on Wednesday.

The 21-year-old was hardly threatened throughout the match, winning with scores of 11-6, 11-2 and 11-4.

Danish Atlas Khan overcame youngster Asim Khan in straight games as well, while Mansoor Zaman won against qualifier Adil Faqir by scores of 11-2, 11-5 and 11-5.

However, veteran Farhan Mehboob was made to work for his 3-1 victory against Saddadul Haq, while Zahir Shah progressed into the next round without having to complete his match as his opponent, Khawaja Adil Maqbool, retired on scores of 2-1 in favour of Zahir.

Meanwhile, Tayyab Aslam beat wildcard Faizan Khan 11-6, 11-6 and 11-5 and Ammad Farid had no problems in ousting Waqar Mehboob from the tournament with a scoreline of 11-1, 11-6 and 11-9.

In the female category, top seed Sadia Gul registered an easy 3-0 win against Habiba Khan, while Madina Zafar stunned third seed Zahab Khan 12-10, 11-8 and 11-3.

Second seed Samar Anjum won 11-7, 11-3 and 11-5 against Faiza Zafar while Riffat Khan shocked Anam Aziz with a hard-fought 3-0 victory.
