KARACHI: The Pakistan women’s team claimed the bronze medal in the Kabaddi World Cup being held in India, as they defeated Denmark 38-28 in the third place play-off.

This completes an excellent outing for the women’s side – which was beaten 47-19 by hosts India in the semi-final – as they finished second in their Group B, winning two out of three matches.

In their first match, Pakistan defeated Mexico 45-25, while they were remarkable in their second match, pipping England by just two points as they won 39-37. However, they were beaten by New Zealand 38-30 in their last group match.

Meanwhile, their male counterparts will take on India in a highly anticipated final today as Pakistan bid to win their first Kabaddi World Cup title.

Pakistan have come close to triumph in the last editions of the tournament, but are yet to beat arch-rivals India for the coveted trophy.

Pakistan-India rivalry is currently at its peak as Pakistan’s hockey team knocked out hosts India recently in the Champions Trophy semi-final.

The Pakistani players could not control their emotions and celebrated joyously, which did not go down well with Indian fans.
