Chauntra police recover 20 rifles, four pistols and a Kalashinkov from car at Chakri Interchange near Peshawar Road

The Rawalpindi police on Saturday seized a large cache of arms being smuggled into the city.


On a tip-off, the Chauntra police recovered 20 rifles, four pistols and a Kalashinkov from a car at Chakri Interchange near Peshawar Road in the wee hours of Saturday. Chauntra SHO Malik Rafaqat said the police also arrested the driver, Akhtar Nawaz, a resident of Peshawar.


The police also confiscated 2,000 rounds from the car bearing registration LEB-2860. Police say another two suspects who were in another car managed to escape from the scene.


The SHO said the suspect was sent on a judicial remand on Saturday.


In another incident, the Islamabad Police and Rangers conducted an operation in the slum areas of Farash Town and arrested twelve suspects in possession of weapons on Saturday.


Investigation officer of the case Tariq Rauf told The Express Tribune two rifles, a Kalashinkov, a pistol, and 50 grammes of explosives were recovered from the suspects.


He said they belong to Balochistan and Afghanistan and will be produced before the court today (Sunday).
