KARACHI: Two-time champions Army continued their impressive run against nine-time national champions Wapda 1-0 in the Pakistan Premier Football League (PPFL) match at the Faisal Town Ground in Lahore on Saturday.

Army dominated the match from the beginning, with Ghulam Rasool scoring the winner in the 29th minute of the match.

With the win Army, extended their lead to 12 points. This was their 10th victory in the season out of 16 matches.

According to coach Shafqat Mehmood, it is about time that his side regains its position as the top side in the country.

“It’s just a matter of time, we’re working hard and will prove ourselves,” Mehmood told The Express Tribune. “We only have two senior players this time around, while the rest of the team is new. I’ve found some amazing talent for this season and I’m glad it’s working.”

The coach added that the top contenders for the title will be defending champions KRL, Wapda, K-Electric and PAF.

“The last leg will be in Karachi, and I’m hoping that my team will maintain its form. Karachi has been our weakness for the past three seasons.”

He added that his philosophy for the game changed after his License A course in Germany last year.

“I want my team to play the way Germany does. I was there and I watched the Champions League match between Bayern Munich and Barcelona and I realised Germans go all out in their pursuit of victory, which is I want my players to do.”
