PESHAWAR: Two people, including a soldier of the Frontier Corp, were killed and at least one man was injured when a remote-controlled bomb, planted by the road side in Phase III of Hayatabad, Peshawar, went off on Friday night.

The attack took place near the Shah CNG station in Hayatabad, resulting in rumours that it was a CNG cylinder blast inside a vehicle.

But SSP Operation Najeebur Rehman Bugvi told The Express Tribune that as per initial reports, a vehicle of security forces was targeted through an improvised explosive device (IED).

Military sources confirmed that one FC man was killed in the attack, but declined to share any further details.

An official of the BDS, Zahidur Rehaman, said around three kilogrammes of high explosive had been used in the road side bomb.

“It was a pipe bomb of around three kilogramme, and was detonated via a remote,” he said, adding that the target was the vehicle of security force.

The blast also hit a civilian car.

Among civilians, a junior clerk of the Education Department Abdul Basit, was killed. He was a resident of Board Colony. Basit's friend Javed, a resident of Karak, was seriously injured and had to be rushed to the nearby Hayatabad Medical Complex for treatment.
