22-storey building: Dhedhi says KUJ flats project to start on fast-track

Says the project is expected to complete in three years

KARACHI: A delegation of the Karachi Union of Journalists flats committee, led by KUJ President G M Jamali, met leading businessman and prominent stock broker Aqeel Kareem Dhedhi to discuss matters pertaining to journalists’ residential project.

During the meeting, Dhedhi assured the delegation that he stood by his commitment to start construction work on the project on a fast-track basis. KUJ General Secretary Wajid Raza Isfahani, Flats Committee Convener Zaheer Ahmed Khan and members Attaullah Zaki Abro, Ishaq Baloch, Akhgar Anwar Awan, Syed Mukhtar Shah, Shafi Baloch and two KUJ executive council members were also present.

Dhedhi informed the committee that he was ready to provide Rs100 million to the project while another Rs400 million would be arranged as interest-free loan. Another Rs2b would be arranged by him from other sources for the project.

He said that he wants to complete the project within three years. The residential project’s piling work would take six months while the entire project would be completed in 36 months. He said that in view of the large number of journalists and for provision of open space to the project, the building would be 22-storey.

KUJ President G M Jamali thanked AKD and expressed the hope that the project would be completed at the earliest, and that the process would be further expedited. He said that it was his desire to build a family club for journalists which could be included among Asia’s best clubs.

Earlier, the KUJ flats committee held its second meeting at Karachi Press Club and discussed various issues related to the project.
