KARACHI: A request for the seven-day remand for six alleged Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ) militants, believed to have killed a doctor, has been accepted by a court.

Criminal Investigation Department (CID) police presented the suspects Qari Muhammad Dawood alias Farooqi, Shahid alias Zubair, Naushad alias Fahad, Nafees Abbas, Akramul Haq and Muhammad Abdullah in the court of judicial magistrate east Syed Zaheer Hussain Naqvi on Saturday.

A heavy contingent of police surrounded the courts when the suspects were brought in with their faces covered. The investigation officer told the court that the suspects had confessed to killing Dr Shoaib in Alfalah. However, the police have yet to find the murder weapon and need remand to question them further. The officer appealed for 14 days but the court granted them physical remand till November 26.

These suspects were arrested by the CID police on November 12 from Orangi Town after an encounter. The police claimed to have found explosives and weapons in their possession.
