Annual meeting: CPNE appoints new president

Other office bearers appointed include Ilyas Shakir (Qaumi Akhbar, Karachi) as senior vice president

The Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE), during its annual meeting on Thursday, nominated Mujibur Rehman Shami (Daily Pakistan, Lahore) as its president and Dr Jabbar Khattak (Daily Awami Awaz) as its secretary general.


The other office bearers appointed during the annual meeting include Ilyas Shakir (Qaumi Akhbar, Karachi) as senior vice president, Awais Khushnod Ali Khan (Daily Sahafat, Lahore) as Punjab vice president, Shaheen Qureshi (Daily Jang, Karachi) as Sindh vice president, Siddique Baloch (Daily Express Balochistan) as Balochistan vice president, Tahir Farooq (Daily Ittehad, Peshawar) as Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa vice president, Ayaz Khan (Daily Express, Islamabad) as Rawalpindi, Islamabad vice president, Mushtaq Ahmed Qureshi (Monthly Naya Ufaq, Karachi) as joint secretary and Hamid Husain Abidi (Daily Aman, Karachi) as secretary finance.

Federal Minister for Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage Senator Pervaiz Rashid congratulated the newly nominated president, general secretary and other office bearers of CPNE. In a statement the minister reiterated the government’s resolve to facilitate media in the fulfilment of their professional obligations.
