ISLAMABAD:

A National University of Modern Languages (NUML) professor was shot dead by two unidentified men in Tarnol on Monday night.

It is not yet clear, however, if Rana Khalid Bilal, a professor in the NUML German language department, was killed in a drive-by shooting or if he was killed during a robbery.

The version in the FIR, filed by the victim’s nephew Tahir Mehmood, says two robbers opened fire on him, his brother Umair and an uncle, Bilal, when they tried to resist a home invasion. Bilal was shot and died of his wounds, the FIR states, while nominating the suspects for murder, attempted murder and robbery.

The police said a further probe will determine what exactly happened. “We also don’t know what has actually happened. I’m busy preparing a report at the IG’s office,” Tarnol SHO Inspector Mehboob, before disconnecting the call.

The SHO, who is also the investigation officer of the case, said all he knew was that a house is under-construction where the shooting took place.

Lost organs

A man has lodged a case with the Aabpara police saying his son’s liver was extracted illegally and stolen in India during a transplant operation. The complainant, Jahanzaib, told the police that his son, Adil Zaib, 20, was lured to their native village on the prospect of a job by his cousins, Jawad and Babar, who then took him to an army colonel.

Later, he stated, Adil was taken to India where his liver was taken out and he was left abandoned in Lahore. Following the incident, Jahanzaib said his son remained in Polyclinic hospital for liver treatment.

“Adil’s passport confirms he went to India and came back after 15 to 20 days,” said the investigation officer of the case, ASI Irfanullah. “It appears that his liver was taken out for the transplant of another patient.” The officer said Adil’s passport confirmed that he landed at the Lahore airport. No one has so far been arrested in the case as the suspects have gone into hiding, he added.
