QUETTA: Chairperson National Assembly Standing Committee on Information and Broadcasting Marvi Memon said on Monday that the government was taking steps to ensure safety of pilgrims visiting Iran.

“I have discussed the security issue of Shia pilgrims at Taftan border. Police have increased the security in order to ensure the protection of precious life,” she said adding that “all necessary steps will be taken to ensure the safety of Shia pilgrims as they are often targeted on return from the Iran.”

“It is a 700-kilometer long route that is why it not easy to ensure the safety. However, steps are taken to improve the security system without bothering the Shia pilgrims.”

Reiterating government’s resolve to fight against terrorism, Memon said no terrorist organization will be allowed to operate in the country under any name.

Commenting on the murder of year-old Saher Batoo, whose tortured body was found dump near a garbage heap in Quetta, Memon said police had identified the perpetrators.

“Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has taken notice of the murder case of Batool. She further said that she had visited the grieving family of Batool and also held the meeting with IG Police along with a delegation of Hazara community.

The protection of Hazara community is one of the important issues for the premier, that is why I have come here, she added.

Reiterating government’s resolve to fight against terrorism, Memon said no terrorist organisation will be allowed to operate in the country under any name. “The policy of PML-N regarding the TTP and other terrorist groups is clear. They had been chased out and would never be allowed to come back,” she added.
