LAHORE:

An additional district and sessions judge on Friday handed over a child to her mother after Shalimar police recovered him from his father’s custody.

Sumaira Khalid had filed an appeal through her counsel Advocate Ghulam Mujtaba Chaudhry saying that she had married Muhammad Asim. She said she had given birth to a baby boy, Muhammad Kashif, in 2011. She said Asim used to beat her up over petty issues.

On October 4, she said Asim signed an affidavit giving an undertaking that he would not beat her again. She said he had also agreed to give Kashif’s custody to her in case of separation.

She said Asim later again beat her up, snatched the baby and forced her out of their home. She said she had requested police to take action against him but they had not done so.

The petitioner had requested the court to direct the Shalimar station house officer to produce Kashif in court.
