LAHORE/ KARACHI: Punjab and Sindh governments on Wednesday imposed a ban on pillion riding in Lahore and Karachi for Muharram 9 and 10, Express News reported.

Strict safety measures have been put in place to ensure security during Muharram processions across the country, with armed forces monitoring the situation from the skies in Karachi. They will be available on standby in case the city experiences any law and order situation during Ashura next week.

Police in the twin cities have also thrashed out comprehensive security plans to maintain law and order during Muharram. According to the security plan, around 12,000 security personnel, including those of the rangers and army, will perform security duties in the twin cities up to Ashura, which falls on November 4.
