PESHAWAR:

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s top hierarchy has cancelled the basic membership of one of its provincial legislators for his failure to submit a reply to a show-cause notice served against him earlier. The membership of MPA Javed Nasim has been terminated on the directives of PTI’s provincial president Azam Swati, according to a press release issued late Saturday evening.

“A letter of cancellation of party membership has been sent to him and a copy of the same has been dispatched to the secretary Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Assembly and Election Commission of Pakistan for necessary action,” says the press release.

The action was taken against MPA Javed Nasim for violating the party discipline, it said, adding that a show-cause notice was served on him earlier, but he neither replied nor explained his position.

Javed Nasim, who was elected from Peshawar in the 2013 general elections, developed differences with PTI’s provincial leadership, especially with Chief Minister Pervez Khattak, a year ago. Nasim was spearheading a forward bloc of PTI MPAs in the provincial assembly.

However, the group of dissidents apparently imploded a couple of days back when Deputy Speaker Imtiaz Shahid Qureshi was inducted in the provincial cabinet as minister for law and parliamentary affairs. Other dissident legislators are reportedly planning to field their own candidate for the slot of deputy speaker.
