NA Speaker serves final notice to PTI lawmakers to verify resignations

Speaker asks PTI MNAs to appear in his chamber on October 29

Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq on Friday sent one final notice to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawmakers to personally verify their resignations in his chamber otherwise all the resignations will be accepted.

Speaker has asked the PTI MNAs to verify their resignations individually at his chamber on October 29 otherwise all the resignations will be accepted.

A copy of the final notice sent to media states that the members may come to office of the speaker collectively but verification of the resignations will be done individually. It further states that the PTI MNAs were given ample time to verify their resignations and failure to appear on October 29 will mean that they do not want to follow the due process and the resignations will be accepted.

PTI lawmakers had tendered their resignations on August 22 but did not appear before Speaker of the Lower House despite being invited several times including PTI vice chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi.

Notice mentions that last time the PTI MNAs attended the joint session was on September 3, 2014.

The notice comes after Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had decided to postpone the verification of PTI resignations at a parliamentary parties’ meeting on October 23. Attendants of the meeting had agreed that acceptance of PTI resignations will give birth to a new turmoil. They had also agreed that the acceptance of resignations will create problems for local body elections and by-election as well.

Imran wants resignations to be accepted immediately

Speaking at a rally in Gujarat on Friday evening, Imran Khan said that their resignations should be accepted immediately.

“Who are you to not accept our resignations,” he said while referring to PM Nawaz. “We will not go back in Parliament, and will cancel the party membership of anyone who opposes our decision.”
