Disaster averted: Powerful bomb defused

The bomb disposal unit defused a powerful explosive device planted inside a monitor in Gul Haji Plaza on Wednesday.


According to University Town police, a timed device weighing around 10 kilogrammes was planted inside a computer monitor, which was brought to the plaza for repairs. The shopkeepers spotted it and informed the police.

“It was a timed device. The bomb disposal squad reached to the site and defused the bomb which weighed around 10kg,” BDU Assistant Inspector General Shafqat Malik told The Express Tribune.

Apartment on fire

A 58-year-old woman Muawiza sustained injuries after a fire erupted in her apartment on University Road. The fire broke out when the compressor of an air conditioner blew up.

The moharrar of Tehkal police, Tehsinullah, said the compressor blew up in Al-Saeed Residential Plaza. He added the fire engulfed Muawiza’s apartment, adding a Rescue 1122 team rushed to the spot and extinguished it.

Rescue 1122 officials said the injured woman was rushed to Khyber Teaching Hospital for medical attention. She had received minor injuries and her condition was said to be out of danger.
