ISLAMABAD:

The Pakistan Ulema Council (PUC)’s supreme council has expressed full confidence in the leadership of central chairman Hafiz Muhammad Tahir Mahmood Ashrafi and appreciated his services for inter-faith and inter-sectarian harmony.

The supreme council said PUC is constantly striving for the supremacy of Islam, and peace and stability in Pakistan.

This was stated in a unanimous resolution during a meeting chaired by Ashrafi on Wednesday. During the meeting, a decision was taken to convene a Paigham-e-Aslaf Conference in Lahore on December 30. The conference will be attended by more than 5,000 scholars and clerics from all over the country.

A decision was also taken to hold Paigham-e-Aman seminars and conferences throughout the country during Muharram. Leaders of all sects will attend these events and endorse the code-of-conduct proposed by PUC for maintaining law and order in Muharram.

While addressing participants, Ashrafi said they know what problems they will have to face for promoting inter-faith and inter-sectarian harmony, and putting an end to extremism, terrorism and sectarian violence. “We will not get bogged down by false allegations and propaganda,” he said, adding that PUC workers should continue to carry out their struggle and try to pursue their manifesto and mission rather than adopting the path of confrontation.
