Unesco Director Abdul Hakeem has stressed the need for empowerment of girl child and an end to various forms of violence against girl child, says a press release.
“Girls education is the lifeline to empowerment and liberation. We have to collaborate and focus on mutual benefits,” he said while speaking as chief guest at an event organised by the Roots School System DHA1/Ivy International campus Islamabad recently in connection with the International Day of the Girl Child recently.
He congratulated the school administration, principle and students on their initiative and portrayal of the diversity of Pakistani culture.
“We have to recognizing and appreciate cultural diversity” he said.
Liberating the Girl Child Foundation (LGCF) president Neha Omair shared the activities of the project that she started in 2009 including the construction of an IT lab and a library at the Government School, Kotha Kalan in Rawalpindi. It has now over 1,500 members worldwide.
While addressing the volunteers and students, school CEO Khadija Mushtaq said, the LGCF project is not just about building the infrastructure and renovation of the school but about sharing the sentiments between the girls of the two segments of society.
