KARACHI:
Mansoor Khan became the leading scorer of this season’s Pakistan Premier Football League (PPFL), with six goals from four matches, as his team PAF thrashed Quetta’s Baloch FC 3-0 at the Jinnah Stadium in Islamabad yesterday.
PAF dominated the match with an early goal from Mansoor in the third minute, while Mujahid doubled the lead in the 30th. Mansoor then went onto seal the win tin he 43rd minute to ensure three more points for PAF in the league.
With the victory, the club has also topped the league table with 13 points after playing six matches.
However, coach Arshad Khan believes his team should have scored more against Baloch FC.
“Our first half was fine, but the second wasn’t as I expected,” Arshad told The Express Tribune. “We lost our focus in the second half. Mansoor missed several scoring opportunities and so did Mujahid.
“Baloch FC also opted for an extremely defensive strategy, where all of their players were in their own goal area. I just believe that we needed to score more in this match.”
Despite his criticism, the coach said he was happy with Mansoor’s performance, who returned to the club after playing at the Asian Games and taking part in a friendly against Palestine earlier this month.
“The PPFL will have the top scorer coming from PAF this time. Mansoor is in the lead so far.”
Arshad also acknowledged Baloch FC’s game, speaking of the danger the smaller teams posed.
“The Quetta outfit defended well. They also stunned Army with a goalless draw in their last match so there is no weak team in the league. Each one is equally competitive. They always trouble stronger sides and with just 22 matches to play, we have to make sure that our goal average is better than that of the rest.”
Meanwhile, in the second match of the day, NBP played a goalless draw against hosts Railways in Lahore.
In today’s fixture, Afghan FC will take on Army at Jinnah Stadium in Islamabad.
