Quaid-e-Azam Trophy: Fawad, Hammad hold NBP reins against Rawalpindi

Tanvir’s unbeaten 93 helps ZTBL pile pressure on Lahore

KARACHI: All-rounder Fawad Alam’s century and Hammad Azam’s half-ton helped NBP post 306-5 against Rawalpindi Rams to bag a 24-run lead at the end of day two of the second round of Quaid-e-Azam Trophy Gold at Rawalpindi Stadium.

Fawad was unbeaten on 115, while Hammad reached his half-century on 54 balls at the close of play.

Rams resumed their first innings on 281-9 but could only manage one run in seven balls before their last wicket fell.

Meanwhile, all-rounder Sohail Tanvir was in the form of his life as he went unbeaten to score 93 off 99 for ZTBL who managed 335 runs against Lahore Lions for the loss of six wickets at the end of day two. Shoaib Malik earlier made a steady contribution of 77 runs.

Bilawal and Mustafa Iqbal claimed two wickets each for Lions, who earlier scored 226 to end their first innings on day one.

In another match, UBL got back on the track scoring 228 runs against Islamabad after their batting collapse on 95 runs in the first innings. Naved Sarwar scored 81 off 175 balls while Hamza Nadeem claimed five wickets.

Islamabad lost one wicket for three runs as the bails were called off on day two after four over. Islamabad needs 170 runs to win on day three as they scored 151 in their first innings.

PQA, WAPDA hold high grounds

In PQA’s match against Multan, the former started their day on 290-5 and were able to add only 34 runs to their first-innings total. Majid Ali took four wickets for Multan Tigers.

By the end of day, Multan had reached 240-8, courtesy Kashif Naveed’s down-the-order 52.

Wapda resumed their first innings against Peshawar Panthers on 140-2 and were able to add 138 runs to end their innings on 278. Iftekhar Ahmed scored a ton while Azizullah and Taj Wali accounted for five and four batsmen respectively.

By the end of play, Panthers had reached 68-8 in 25.3 overs as Waqas Masood and Ali Bhutta bagged three scalps each.

Meanwhile, Karachi Dolphins posted 205 against SNGPL after a delayed start to the match due the political rally in Karachi.

Saad Ali scored 105 for the hosts while visitors Asad Ali and Imran Khalid claimed four and three wickets respectively. SNGPL were batting on 29 runs without any loss at the end of the day.

All these players score good in domestic but when it comes to international games, they just simply cant bat. This shows pakistan have a bad quality domestic structure. There isnt much competition.
