FAISALABAD:

A woman was critically injured when her husband allegedly poured boiling oil on her on Saturday.

Zahoor Bashir, a cousin of the victim, told The Express Tribune Asma Bibi had married Muhammad Arshad, a resident of Mohallah Lahori Gate, about seven years ago. He said they had a four-year-old son. He said Arshad was unemployed and a drug addict.

He said his cousin ran a beauty parlour at their house.

Bashir said Arshad had returned home drunk late on Friday night and told her to boil an egg for him. He said she asked him to wait for a few minutes.

He said Arshad got angry and went to the kitchen and heated oil in a saucepan.

Bashir said Arshad returned upstairs and poured the oil on her. He said when Asma screamed for help, he hit her with a spatula and broke her fingers.  He said on hearing the commotion, some neighbours gathered outside the house. Arshad fled on seeing them. Bashir said Asma was taken to a hospital where doctors said her condition was critical.

A police team reached the house and collected evidence. They also recorded statements. DPO  Abdul Qadir Qamar took notice of the incident and police to arrest Arshad within 48 hours.

Inspector Muhammad Afzal, a member of a team formed to apprehend Arshad, said raids were being conducted to find him.
