PESHAWAR:

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has restored the membership of three Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Assembly members after they submitted their annual declarations of assets and liabilities.

On October 15, ECP had announced suspending membership of at least 32 K-P MPAs due to their failure to submit asset declarations within the stipulated time. ECP also forwarded the names of the suspended members to the provincial assembly.

Sources in the ECP said at least three out of the 32 MPAs have submitted the declarations and their memberships were consequently restored on Friday.

However, Jamaat-e-Islami chief Sirajul Haq, K-P Minister for Minerals Ziaullah Afridi and Adviser to CM on Sports, Tourism and Archeology Amjad Khan Afridi are among those who have not yet submitted details of their assets despite being suspended.

Chief Minister Pervez Khattak and Opposition Leader Maulana Lutfur Rehman, who had not submitted their declarations earlier, managed to do so before being suspended. The remaining members are also likely to submit their declarations soon as the K-P Assembly will convene on October 23 and the joint opposition’s no-confidence motion against CM Khattak is likely to be taken up during the session.

A statement issued by Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam on Saturday quoted Opposition Leader Rehman telling his party’s lawmakers to ensure their presence at the October 23 assembly proceedings.
