Quaid-e-Azam Trophy: Umar Amin scores ton for PQA

Left-handed batsman’s unbeaten 101 helps team achieve 290-5 in second round’s day one

KARACHI: Fresh from an uninspiring run in the national team, left-handed batsman PQA’s Umar Amin notched up an unbeaten century on the opening day of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy Gold tie against Multan Tigers.

Amin is batting on 101 accumulated off 186 balls as the visitors reached a score of 290-5 at the Multan Stadium. Opening batsman Khurram Manzoor – left out of the Test squad against Australia – scored 33 while Faraz Ali contributed 73 runs.

Meanwhile, Rawalpindi Rams posted 281-9 when stumps were drawn on the opening day of their tie against NBP.

Shoaib Nasir and Naveed Malik scored half-centuries for the hosts while Ziaul Haq and Adnan Rasool snapped up three wickets each at the Rawalpindi Stadium.

In another match, Peshawar Panthers were rolled over for a mere 109 runs on the first day of their match against Wapda. Mohammad Idrees top-scored with 51, while Waqas Maqsood and Ali Bhutta took four wickets apiece.

By the end of play, Wapda had reached 140 for two in 45 overs. Iftikhar Ahmed top scored with 74, while Ayaz Tassawar is batting on 52.

All-rounder Sohail Tanvir claimed five wickets while Shoaib Malik took two as ZTBL managed to send Lahore Lions packing for 226 in 88.5 overs on the opening day of their tie at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. Arsalan Bajwa top-scored with 82 runs for the hosts.

Meanwhile, Mudassar Ali ran through UBL on the opening day of the Islamabad Leopards tie against the bankers. Ali took five wickets to send the visitors packing for 95 runs at the Diamond Ground.
The hosts also found the going extremely tough as they were dismissed for 151 runs in their first innings. Junaid Ilyas took four wickets for the visiting team.

Hyderabad dismissed by PIA in first innings

Hyderabad Hawks were rolled over for 173 runs on the opening day of their Quaid-e-Azam Trophy Silver round-two match against PIA.
Tahir Khan was the pick of the bowlers, taking three wickets, while Zeeshan Gul was the pick of the batsmen, scoring 50 runs.
By the end of play, PIA had reached 84 for the loss of one wicket.
Karachi Zebras managed a score of 257-9 on the opening day of their match against PTV. Owais Rehmani top scored with an unbeaten 85 run knock.

In another matchk, Quetta Bears was sent packing for 168 against KRL on day one of the tie being played at the KRL Stadium in Rawalpindi.

Shahzad Tareen top-scored with 83 for the visitors while Sadaf Hussain and Yasir Ali took three wickets apiece for the hosts.
Abbottabad Falcons also had a poor day with the bat against HBL on the opening day of their match. Test discards Umar Gul with five and Abdul Rehman with two wickets broke the back of Falcons’ batting effort.

By close of play, HBL had reached 96 for one, to cap off a fine day in the field.

Mukhtar Ahmed and Naveed Yasin scored 144 and 109 runs respectively to help State Bank make a promising start to their tie against Bahawalpur Stags.

State Bank had reached 309-2 by close of play as their hosts struggled to make an impression at the Dring Stadium.

Another Association bore the brunt of a powerful bowling attack as Faisalabad Wolves were shot out for 110 in their tie against SSGC. Tabish Khan and Mohammad Irfan took four wickets apiece for the departmental outfit who had reached 142 for four in their first innings when stumps were drawn for the day.
