PESHAWAR: Chief of Ahmadzai Wazir tribe Malik Muhammad Jameel has appealed to Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Governor Mehtab Abbasi to sack South Waziristan Agency’s Political Agent (PA) Islam Zeb, accusing the latter of corruption and pursuing his own business interests.

Addressing a news conference at Peshawar Press Club on Thursday, Jameel urged the K-P governor to appoint a new PA in South Waziristan who will serve the interests of the tribal people.

“Zeb has put elders of the tribe behind bars just because they wanted to arrange a meeting with him to discuss the challenges faced by the people of Ahmadzai tribe,” he said.

Moreover, Jameel accused the PA of colluding with corrupt officials in the area and selling fake schemes under the guise of Annual Development Programme (ADP) and Governor’s Development Programme (GDP). These schemes are only confined to documents and have not been implemented, he added.

According to the tribal chief, PA Islam Zeb has also been involved in smuggling edible items including sugar, flour and rice. “The items have been smuggled to Afghanistan in large trucks from Punjab through Tank district and Garhwai, Daghzai and Angor Ada areas of the agency.”

Moreover, Jameel said Zeb has deputed unqualified political moharrars at different check posts to serve his own interests. “Every day, they illegally accumulate millions of rupees and give the money to the PA,” he alleged.
