Balochistan Chief Minister Dr Abdul Malik Baloch announced on Saturday that local bodies would be made functional in the province after Eidul Azha.
Speaking at the “Meet the Editors” programme at the office of the Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE) on Saturday, he said that enforced disappearances in Balochistan is a humanitarian issue and the government is trying to resolve it.
CPNE Secretary Dr Jabbar Khattak, Event Committee chairman Amir Mehmood, Vice President Ayaz Khan and Treasurer Hamid Hussain Abidi were present on the occasion.
Dr Baloch, referring to sectarian and ethnic strife, said that a particular mindset had sowed the seeds of discontent in the country and the whole nation was suffering today.
“Our biggest issue is missing persons. We have informed the military leadership and the centre that we are with the federation and need their cooperation to resolve this issue,” the CM told the CPNE.
He said that incidents of dumped corpses showing up here and there have virtually stopped during the past eight months.
The chief minister said that the Baloch people were kept away from education under a conspiracy, while over 35,000 graduates were unemployed, creating social and economic problems.
Warning against rising discontent, he said people were being pushed towards religious extremism under a well thought game plan.
He said that armed groups and gangs of extortionists have been controlled to some extent in Balochistan.
The overall situation in Balochistan had improved and it could be said that the law and order in Quetta compared to the other cities of the country was much better. As far as the political situation in the country was concerned, it was a matter of satisfaction that the political forces were cooperating with each other and now the supremacy of parliament was on top of all other matters, he added.
On the issue of overcoming the energy crisis, he said that the provincial government was keen on bringing improvement in the energy sector and 700 MW of electricity would soon be added to the national grid for Balochistan.
