CHARSADDA: The student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, the Islami Jamiat Talaba (IJT) began a protest movement on Tuesday in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa against the change in curriculum reportedly made by the provincial government.

In the first phase of the movement, IJT held a protest rally in Charsadda. The protesters gathered on Farooq-e-Azam Chowk and blocked the main road for traffic. They chanted slogans against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Imran Khan.

IJT provincial nazim Sohaibuddin Kakakhel criticised the change in curriculum and declared it a plan against the basic beliefs of the young generation of Muslims. He claimed the PTI government has removed Islamic content from textbooks and added lessons on non-Muslims personalities.

He said the intentions of the provincial government became clear to them when this government handed over the responsibility of revising the curriculum to non-governmental organisations.

Kakakhel claimed PTI wants to make Pakistan a secular state which was not acceptable to IJT. He demanded that the K-P chief minister take back the decision of making the changes or they would start a series of protests across the province and in front of the CM house.

Later, the protesters dispersed peacefully and the road was opened for the traffic.

Meanwhile, the activists of IJT in Upper Dir also held a protest in the district for the same cause.
