Netherlands working towards finding alternative energy solutions.

ISLAMABAD: Embassy of Netherlands in Islamabad has expressed its desire to collaborate in providing alternate-energy solutions to marginalised communities, living in off grid areas.

The aim is to increase the outreach of Lighting a Million Lives (LaML), a project launched for marginalised communities, who are completely detached from the national grid.

In this regard, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between Buksh Foundation (BF) and the Netherlands Embassy. The agreement will work towards providing alternate-energy solutions.

LaML has been designed for the less privileged with little or no access to electricity, skills, education or modern technology.

Through project expansion, seven female entrepreneurs would be trained, while 14 technical enterprises will be created - upscaling to illuminate seven off grid villages of Bahawalpur.

There would be around 1,750 lives and 3,500 indirect beneficiaries. It uses five junction boxes each consisting of 50 watts, 50 solar lanterns and 5 solar panels that are installed in the Light House.

With Pakistan facing a severe power crisis, stress has often been laid on alternate solutions that would increase the output of the national grid. Wind and solar energy are two solutions that are discussed.

Hope the Funds are well utilized and the project is maintained in future. We have seen many projects undergone into ashes and no one bothers to visit or maintain once the project is implemented. Its better if the Dutch government make periodic check with there projects.
