SUKKUR:

Peace can only be achieved through inter-religious harmony, said speakers at an event held to mark International Day of Peace at a hotel in Sukkur on Sunday.

Themed the ‘right of people to peace’, the event was organised by the Enhanced Democratic Accountability and Citizens Engagement (EDACE). The speakers said that inequality, VIP culture, feudalism and lack of merit had been major setbacks in the quest for peace in the country.

Justice (retd) Mian Farooq Pirzada, Shah Abdul Latif University international relations chairperson Prof Dr Abdul Majeed Chandio, church representative Rev Muneer Bashir and others spoke at the event.

According to panelists, revolutions occur when people feel insecure. Tolerance, dialogues and community boards can create harmony in society. The speakers stressed that people should follow their religion without interfering in the personal lives of others. The EDACE provincial director said that they were setting up an office of the Citizens-Police Liaison Committee in Sukkur to improve law and order.
