FAISALABAD: Police on Monday arrested five men for murdering a woman for honour three months ago.

Tandlianwala City police said that the family of 24-year-old Kausar registered a case on June 11, 2014, claiming she had gone missing from her village.

The girl’s father Allah Yar stated that Kausar had gone to purchase grocery items, but did not return home.

The Faisalabad city police officer (CPO) constituted a special team, comprising Operations Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Ameer Abdullah Niazi, Sammundri Deputy Superintendent Police (DSP) Ejaz Hussain and Tandlianwala City station house officer (SHO) to find the girl.

Her parents protested against the police after they failed to trace her.

During the investigation, the team also questioned the girl’s brother Noor Muhammad. “During the interrogation, Noor revealed that Kausar had been murdered on June 11,” police said.

Noor Muhammad told police that his family members suspected that Kausar was having an affair with a neighbour.

“He revealed that Allah Yar, deceased’s brother Shaukat, uncles Umar and Jameel and another relative Mehmood took Kausar to the Gogera Branch Canal and murdered her there. Later, they threw the body in the canal,” police said.

Police have now arrested Allah Yar, Shaukat, Umar, Jameel and Mehmood. They have also recovered the pistol used for killing the girl.

CPO Sohail Habib Tajik appreciated the performance of investigation team and announced cash prizes and appreciation letters for them.
