Stunning Saad on gold spree

Swimmer breaks 10 records in national championship.

KARACHI: Saad Amin emerged as the best athlete in the U16 category at the 19th National Boys Age-Group Swimming Championship with 14 gold medals and 10 new records in Peshawar.

Saad added four more records to his tally on Sunday after winning the 50m U16 freestyle by outpacing fellow Sindh swimmer Mohammad Danish and Ismail Najeeb.

The teenager also won gold medals and created records in the 400 individual medley, 1,500m freestyle and 100m butterfly competitions.

Sindh’s Muneeb Shafiq won 10 gold medals in the U12 championships, creating four new records, whereas Humza Anwer was declared the best U14 swimmer with eight golds.

Sindh dominated the overall championship with 46 gold medals, 27 silver, 10 bronze and 1,407 points, followed by Punjab in second place with one gold, 13 silver, 12 bronze and 410 points.  Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa secured third position with seven silver, 25 bronze and 395 points.
