TANK/ DI KHAN:

A Danish couple was arrested at Daraban police check post, DI Khan on Saturday for travelling without the relevant documents but was later released.

According to an official of the DI Khan police, Jakeb and his wife Carolyn were heading to Zhob district of Balochistan from DI Khan when police held them at Daraban check post which is located at the border between Balochistan and DI Khan.

The official added that the couple was shifted to the police station but was later released on directives from senior officials.

In May, a Chinese tourist identified as Hong Xu Dong was kidnapped from the area while he was on a cycling tour of the country. Dong was abducted on May 19 around 2pm while cycling 65 kilometres from DI Khan.

Six men on motorcycles kidnapped him and left his cycle behind. According to the police, they were informed about an abandoned cycle believed to be that of a tourist. Upon searching it, police found Dong’s passport. Locals helped the police in discovering the path of the kidnappers.

However, the suspects had dumped a motorcycle in Kot Sultan Jungle and taken the tourist with them.

A faction of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan later accepted responsibility of the abduction.

On May 20, while talking to journalists, Sadaq Baluch, the district police officer, claimed that they had detained two of the kidnappers who he identified as Ayub and Nizam-u-Din and recovered one of the motorcycles used in the kidnapping. However, Dong’s whereabouts remain unknown to date.
