LAHORE:

Taking notice of political interference in police investigation, Lahore High Court on Friday suspended an order by the chief ministers secretariat’s summoning an investigation officer in a murder case.

Justice Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi issued the order on a petition by Maqsooda Bibi challenging an order of the chief minister’s secretariat.

Her counsel told the court she had filed a murder complaint with the Bheki police and investigations were underway. However, a member of the chief minister’s secretariat inspection team had summoned the investigation officer which, Maqsooda Bibi claimed, would hamper a fair and transparent investigation. She said that this was an attempt to influence the investigation and could lead to irreparable loss to her fundamental rights. After hearing the preliminary arguments, the court suspended the chief minister secretariat’s order and said strict action would be taken against the officer if he tried to influence the case in the future.
