Alleged torture: PAT worker dies in police custody

A worker of Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) who was rounded up by the Faisalabad police, died in custody on Saturday.

FAISALABAD: A worker of Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) who was rounded up by the Faisalabad police, died in custody on Saturday. Relatives of the PAT worker, Naubahar Khan, said that he was severely thrashed and tortured by the police.Police spokesperson Ameer Nasir Javaid said that Naubahar was detained under Maintenance of Public Order in the Central Jail Faisalabad. He fell grievously ill on Saturday and died en route to hospital, he said. “Naubahar was an addict and possibly fell ill due to a withdrawal syndrome from not being provided drugs in jail,” the police spokesman added.
