Targeted killing: Imam of mosque, moazzin shot dead

Police officials claim to have recovered the empty shells of the 9mm pistols from the crime scene

KARACHI: A prayer leader and a prayer caller (moazzin) were shot dead and three others were wounded in an act of target killing outside a mosque in Gulshan-e-Iqbal on Saturday evening. The incident took place outside the Masjid-e-Abrar that also holds a religious seminary Jamia Arabia Madinatul Uloom. The deceased were identified as Maulana Ehtisham and Qari Hafeez while the injured were identified as Asim, Ashiq and Maulana Haroon. SHO Aurangzeb Khattak told The Express Tribune that the deceased and the injured were sitting at a donation table outside the Masjid after Maghrib prayers when at least four armed men riding on two motorcycles came close to them and opened indiscriminate firing at them. The armed assailants later managed to escape. Police officials claim to have recovered the empty shells of the 9mm pistols from the crime scene and initiated further investigation.
