KARACHI:

The Table Tennis Federation of India has sent the final list of the probables to defend their title at the South Asian Junior and Cadet Championship, which will be held at the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) Complex in Islamabad from August 27 to 29.

“India have sent all the required documents of their participating players while Sri Lanka, Maldives, Nepal and Bangladesh are yet to send the names,” Pakistan Table Tennis Federation (PTTF) President Saiyid Muhammad Sibtain told The Express Tribune. “The last date of submission is July 20.”

Sibtain added that he has forwarded all documents to the PSB, where the officials will run them through a clearance process after discussing it with the Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC) ministry.

“Issuing clearance to India takes time, that’s why they sent us their documents early on our request,” said Sibtain.

The official had earlier said that the PTTF has received a written approval from the IPC for organising the championship.

Sri Lanka, Maldives, Nepal, Bangladesh and defending champions India are set to take part in the championship.

Talking about the junior team to represent Pakistan at the event, PTTF Secretary Kifayatullah Khan said, “The juniors will be selected after the National Junior Championship, which will take place in Abbottabad from August 16-19, after which they will immediately join the camp at the PSB Complex for the South Asian event.”
