KARACHI: A police's assistant sub-inspector (ASI) was shot dead in a targeted attack in Korangi on Monday.

Police said the incident took place in Zia Colony where unidentified motorcyclists opened fire at him. The deceased was identified as Muhammad Yousuf Khan, 42, son of Naseem Khan.

Korangi SHO Muhammad Amin said the deceased was shot at least 14 times and died on the spot. The assailants, he added, managed to escape. The body of the deceased was taken to Jinnah hospital for the autopsy. The ASI was posted to the investigation wing of the Zaman Town police station. Police officials were unable to ascertain the motive behind the incident, however, they suspect that Khan might have been killed over ongoing targeted attacks on law enforcers in the city. A case was registered against unidentified persons.

Separately, three people, Junaid, Mohsin and Idrees, were shot at and injured in Kalri, Lyari. The police said the attackers belonged to Lyari's Raja Pathan group and they opened fire in an area dominated by the Shakil Badshah group. They were taken to Civil hospital for treatment where Mohsin Khan succumbed to injuries. The police have nominated members of the rival group in the case.

Separately, Bashir Alam, 35, was found dead in an ice depot within the limits of the Memon Goth police station.
