LHC restores Sahi as POA head

National Olympic body again plunged in crisis.

KARACHI:

The Lahore High Court (LHC) restored Muhammad Akram Sahi as the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) president on Tuesday after the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) recently agreed to accept Arif Hasan as the legitimate head of the national Olympic body.

The tussle for power between the two parallel POAs – one backed by the Inter-Provincial Coordination ministry and the PSB and the other by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) – had almost brought on a ban on Pakistan.

In order to avoid international isolation and the possible ban, the PSB gave in and decided to support Hasan’s POA and further stated that all the letters and notification issued earlier stand cancelled.

However, the court’s orders have once again stirred uncertainty and doubts regarding Pakistan’s Olympic Movement.

The LHC has reacted on the writ petition filed by the Sahi-led POA by cancelling all orders issued by the PSB on July 4.

“The Honourable High Court has also cancelled the list prepared by the PSB for the forthcoming Commonwealth Games, as it had been prepared without the consent of the recognised federations and without trials,” read the POA press release.

“The list included names of players who had retired almost 20 years back. The court has taken serious notice of all the discrepancies and granted a stay.”

The judiciary along with politicians is making Pakistan a laughing stock of the world. While the commonwealth countries are going to play games from 23rd. July our judiciary is still playing games with leadership of POA.
