CHARSADDA:

Two mortar shells planted by unidentified men outside a house in Tangi tehsil of Charsadda district were defused on Thursday morning.

Mandani police official Shakirullah Khan said the incident occurred around 6:00am.

Gulzada, owner of the house and resident of Ganderi, told the police a pedestrian informed him that two shells wrapped in a bag were lying outside the main gate of his residence.

He informed the police which sent a contingent along with the bomb disposal unit who cordoned off the area and defused the shells.

Gulzada told the police he has no personal enmity with anyone.

Initial investigation, however, revealed Gulzada owns a travel agency and was receiving threats from extortionists.

Extortion cases are on a rise in the district since last month. On May 30, a CNG station was attacked by unidentified men.

On the same day, unidentified men tossed a grenade at an empty residence in the jurisdiction of Shabqadar police station.
