Scores of Kashmiri students studying at a local educational institute of Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, complained that they were beaten up and ragged by seniors while the institute’s authorities did not take action against the accused students, police said.
Police stated that a Kashmiri student of B-Tech first year at HR Institute was using the toilet in the hostel where he sustained an electric shock.
As he cried out for help, senior students from B-Tech third year rushed and inquired about the reason for shouting — which they called as disturbing since they were busy in exam preparations— the Times of India reported.
The student, Mohammad Omar, explained the reason but the senior students, instead of consoling him, thrashed him. The incident snowballed into a clash in which the Kashmiri students say that about 50 of them were injured.

@sh(india) if we can accomodate Bihari muslims (migrated ain 80's and 90's) in millions we can easily accomodate kashmiris........ Kashmiris are mora than just brothers for pakistanis.
Yes. Kashmiri students should be given automatic admission to LUMS and such colleges. They should be given special priviledges like in India. Remember, Kashmir is the jugular vein of Pakistan. People from the Jugular vein are special people who have to be treated specially. No ragging for special people.
@Dr Priyanka: LOL!!!!!
@Pity: I am sure they would be very happy in your country. Ghaziabad is considered one of the best townships in India and but I think you have the best commercial hubs and Ivy league colleges. Take them please! This daily skirmishes can affect them.
@Razi is it a necessity to mix religion in everything?
@kulwant singh: these people are cunning. they cannot provide basic rights and securities to their own people, here acting as a protector of some special categiries according to priorities to take revenge against 71's war
ragging- put this into that category. not only kashmiris, but most of the first years are go through this phase.
@GP65,
why is it absurd? You colonize their land but want them to be grateful for the crumbs you throw at them. And, they should transform themselves to be your slaves because they "live and study in heart of India"? But the Kashmiris have welcomed you Indians, who carry guns and wear boots, to their land. You never asked for their permission when you enter their land.
They are studying in "Hindu India" because you are colonizing their land. If you have given them azadi, they will study wherever they want including in Lahore and Karachi. After all, Pakistan is led by a Kashmiri PM, isn't it?
@Gp65: you are right. However I find it amazing that even after 67 years of special status Kashmir has not been able to educate her own citizens as all Indian states do. Article 370 of the constitution has not helped them has it? Also it is regrettable that in many college dormitories the first year students are harassed by their seniors. I hope harassments known as ragging are eradicated so that all junior students have a happy university educational experience.
@Gp65
You will always justify anything against Muslims one way or another. And now, your compatriot John B, the resident expert in everything from economics to Islamic law, has joined your cause.
Every day across thousands of colleges in India, ragging takes place and students fight among each other. If these students are tamil, bengali, sikh, marathi, rajastani, hindu, christian etc there is no issues or discrimination against them.
If these students by chance happen to be kashimiri, suddenly for pakistanis it becomes discrimination and India becomes a hindu country oppressing poor peaceful kashmiris.
Come on guys, get a life. Indian students only worry about their studies, jobs, campus interviews, careers etc. They dont care if you are from kashmir or from goa.
@John B: We understand the hyperbole "shining India" better than you. So, let's just leave it at that. Thanx. Salams
It is better for pakistan to concentrate its own problem rather than its neighbour.
This is seriously unacceptable and disgusting behaviour! It's a shame the guilty are not being punished.. I wish they could come to Pakistan!
Raging should be abolished at whatever cost.But in some colleges it is common, be a kashmiri or tamil or marathi you name it there is no difference.The title truly misleading the article.
According to description, it was not about India-pakistan-kashmir. Writer chose title as per his comfort. News is partial, and opens doors of speculation that electric shock was given by other students. While fact is Peer Omar, 22, was thrashed by his seniors for screaming after he touched a live wire in washroom.
Its not related to kashimir or muslim. It is that one guy shouted, other students who were studying because of exams rushed there, but got angry because of disturbance and beat that shouting person.
In colleges in india, especially in engineering colleges such incidents are very common... Ragging including physical ragging is a norm in boys hostels. I do not support the behaviour but it is not targeted only against Kashmiris.
I have seen boys forming all kinds of groups, based on regions or other criteria and then squabbling with each other or harassing juniors of other regions etc. And authorities almost never intervene unless some extreme incident happens.
@usman777: My dear Usman they are the citizens of India and their rights as enshrind in th constitution must be protected. We are really very sorry for the treatment meted out to him and condemn it from the core of our heart. But I fail to understand the logic that Kashmiri muslims are your brothers and the 20 crore Muslims living in different parts of India are your enemies.
My Kashmiri people, don't live in a fool's dream. Indians will never respect our culture, language, race, or religion. Our only future is with Pakistan and the rest of the Muslims. My heart goes out to these poor innocent Kashmiri boys being targeted only because of their race and religion.
routiine ragging incident blown out of proportion and given Kashmiri angle to add spice to the story.
@Shamsher Singh Bajwa: Unfortunately it seems that Hindustanis only consider their fellow countrymen as their fellow human beings
During First semester while studying Engineering, Me along with my room mate was beaten up (of-course there were many more like us) by 3rd Sem seniors and they were from different sect & religions. After reading these comments i realize that we should have make that an example of religious hatred instead of General Ragging. Boys if you want to go Pak than please do fast because in India Everyone is equal weather you are kashmiri or belong from kanyakumari.
What else do you expect from 'shining' India?
Cry me a river. Simole college squabbles are being reported. The very fact that these students can live and study in heart of India - UP even though bu law Indians cannot do so in Jammu and Kashmir shows that there is no discrimnation. If they were truly worried aout their safety in 'Hindu India' as the Pakistanis think, they would not be studying in Ghaziabad.
Not justifying the violence by any means but giving it the name of discrimination is absurd.
First year students were harassed by seniors in college is the most appropriate tile. I don't see any discrimination event, all I read is harassment which is also called hazing in college campus.
If there were any discrimination against them for being Kashmiri, as the title implies, then they will not have been admitted in the college to start with.
Press should not hype the event and add flavors to the event. Let the readers make their own conclusion.
They can study in land of the pure pakistan. We dont need them in india.
They look just like us. Tragic why Indians must enslave our brothers. Tragic, we have not been able to free them.
I condemn this shameful behavior! This is no way to treat you fellow human beings!
