Despite the health sector service being fully devolved to the provincial level, the government is mindful of its responsibilities in supporting the provinces in various areas. Some of these areas include: regulation of the health sector, eradication of deadly diseases, and coordination of achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

For the eradication of polio from the country, an emergency plan has been made for the Federal Government and the provincial jurisdictions to work closely.

Funding through the budget will also include the Expanded Programme of Immunisation (EPI), National Programme for Family Planning, National Maternal Neonatal and Child Health Programme and Primary Healthcare.

Several other national programmes aimed at the prevention and control of diseases such as TB, Hepatitis, blindness and AVN Influenza will also be funded through the budget.
